Thiago Silva will leave Chelsea after the season. This is what the 39-year-old Brazilian stopper said on his Instagram profile in a very emotional video. However, he doesn’t want to leave Stamford Bridge forever, as he hopes to return one day, even if it’s in a different role.

Thiago Silva and his journey

Silva has been in Europe since 2005, when Porto brought him to their team for €2.5 million. But after that, he alternated European football with Brazilian football for a few years before finally settling at AC Milan.

However, after less than three years in Milan, the outstanding stopper moved to Paris, where a new star team had just begun to form. With PSG, he thus began a long era of dominance in the French top flight, dominated by Silva and co. from the 2012/13 season until 2019/20.

Even though he was still putting in great performances, the Parisian club’s management wanted to bring in a more promising stopper. That was the 35-year-old Serigo Ramos, which the Brazilian defender, already in the Blues jersey, did not forget to comment properly.

But otherwise, you haven’t heard much about Silva, only in connection with his performances. They have been really great when we are talking about a stopper who has always been and still is always reliable. This was also recognised at Chelsea, where, despite his great age, he is still one of the best on the pitch and a regular.

It was with Chelsea that Silva won the Champions League, which the Blues dominated in the 2020/21 season. Maybe then in a different role!

But now what is expected is what has been talked about for a while. the 39-year-old Brazilian will probably end his career where it started, at Fluminense.

Farewell

“Chelsea means a lot to me. I came here with the idea of staying for a year and it’s been four years. And not only for me, but also for my family. My son plays for Chelsea and we have all become part of this family. I hope the door stays open for me here in the near future so I can come back to the club in a different role. All I can say is thank you,” Silva was quoted as saying in an interview with Chelsea’s club website.

European football is losing another legend who has been with us for many years. But it will certainly be interesting to follow the Rio de Janeiro native’s further development. According to his words, after he hangs up his cleats, we will surely see his return in a managerial role soon. Given his human qualities, this will be a great asset for football itself.
