Incomprehensible VAR intervention in the Premier League! Chelsea robbed of a win, Pochettino furious after the game: It’s ruining football, he said

VAR on the scene again. Chelsea could have taken three points from Saturday’s 3-2 win at Aston Villa when Axel Disasi scored in stoppage time in the second half. However, the video referee’s system ruled in favour of the Villans, who disallowed the Blues’ goal. Logically, Mauricio Pochettino spared no words after the game.

VAR on the scene again. Chelsea could have taken three points from Saturday’s 3-2 win over Aston Villa when Axel Disasi scored in stoppage time in the second half. However, the video referee’s system decided in favour of the Villans, who disallowed the Blues’ goal. Logically, Mauricio Pochettino spared no words after the game.

Chelsea need every point in the fight for the European Cup places for next season. However, the entry into the match of the 35th round of the Premier League against Aston Villa did not go well at all.

Marc Cucurella scored an own goal in the fourth minute to give the Villans an early lead. In the 16th minute, the Blues fans were finally able to rejoice as Nicolas Jackson scored a goal to make it 1-1. However, the referee disallowed the goal a few moments later after VAR interference.

The reason was offside. And so at the end of the first half the home side struck again, this time with twenty-one-year-old Morgan Rogers scoring.

Anyway, Chelsea showed solid damage limitation in the second half. Noni Madueke reduced the gap to a single goal in the 62nd minute, and nineteen minutes later Conor Gallagher equalised. The hope of winning the game and therefore gaining full points was still alive.

And that the fans of the Stamford Bridge club had lived to see it. Axel Disasi scored in the 95th minute, or rather in the second half, which would normally have secured a very important victory for his team. But VAR reappeared on the scene…

In the second video you can see why referee Craig Pawson disallowed the goal. Yes, even from an objective point of view, it seems totally unbelievable. The referee interpreted the tackle as a foul that preceded the goal.

Pochettino was furious after the game! VAR is ruining football, Chelsea coach is clear

So Chelsea only drew 2-2 with Aston Villa. How did this result speak to the Premier League table? The London side is ninth with 48 points, a point behind eighth-placed West Ham, five points behind seventh-placed Newcastle and six points behind sixth-placed Manchester United.

Compared to the Hammers, it has two games to play, with one more game played by the two aforementioned teams. Aston Villa are fourth with 67 points, eight points behind Liverpool and seven points ahead of fifth-placed Tottenham, but they have three games in hand over the Villans before Sunday’s clash with Arsenal.

Needless to say, the Chelsea coach was logically not mincing his words at the post-match press conference. “Everyone who watched the game will feel disappointed. The referee actually did two different things. First he disallowed the goal, but then he ran to the video to confirm his decision,” Pochettino said.

“The referee is unbelievable and it’s ridiculous. It’s hard to accept, these things in the semi-final (FA Cup against Manchester City) two weeks ago, where it was a clear hand and it wasn’t a penalty, the referee didn’t even check it,” Pochettino did not hide his frustration.

“It’s painful because it’s damaged English football and I think the Villa players and their fans didn’t understand why the goal wasn’t conceded. We can talk about performance or some decisions, but either way it damages the game itself,” the Chelsea coach added.
