In August this year, the Czech goalkeeper announced that she was leaving PSG to join Tottenham Hotspur. Now, Barbora Votíková has finally stood between the sticks and immediately celebrates a big win. But did she have the chance to show her qualities?
The last two years have certainly not been the most successful ones for the popular Czech goalkeeper and social media personality. This was due to health problems.
In August 2021, she announced her transfer to PSG, but it didn’t work out as she had hoped. In May last year, in a Champions League rematch against Lyon, she sustained a serious injury to her right knee that required an eleven-month recovery.
Since then, she has stood between the three sticks for the first time this April in a friendly match of the Czech national team against Morocco.
During her time at PSG, she managed to play thirteen matches and kept ten clean sheets. This is the best (77%) success rate of all goalkeepers who have played at least 10 matches in the last two seasons in the French league.
Votíková has made her debut in England
In August this year, she announced that she would fulfill her dream of catching in the Isles by transferring to Tottenham Hotspur’s women’s team, where she has now jumped into her first competitive match. Votíková got the opportunity after spending the first two games of the season on the substitutes’ bench.
In the League Cup, the London club’s players faced Reading in the second division and it was a one-sided match.
Despite a significant rotation, her teammates did not give their opponent a chance, confirmed their role as favourites and declased them 6: 0.
According to the statistics available on the BBC website , Bára unfortunately had no significant work in goal and could not show her qualities as her opponents did not send a single shot at her goal.
We can only hope that Barbora will soon get a chance in a league match. Otherwise, she would not get into the game until the end of November, when the next League Cup match is scheduled.
