Bayern Munich will get a taste of what it’s like to go a season without winning a single trophy for the first time in a long time. So the Bavarian giant is sounding the alarm and trying to do everything possible to make sure that it will be different next year. But there’s a catch. He can’t get a new coach.

In the Bundesliga he was dethroned by Bayer Leverkusen, in the Champions League he was defeated by Real Madrid and in the DFB Pokal he was already beaten by Saarbrücken in the second round. Bayern Munich are having a very controversial season. Neither the performances nor the results have been ideal.

Coach Thomas Tuchel has often come under harsh criticism. Also because of the way he came to the club. The fans are still bearing heavily how the former management ousted the already promising Julian Nagelsman in a well-started season and an interestingly developing project.

The fact is that since Tuchel took over, Bayern started to suffer a lot. Even last year, it had its work cut out for it to dominate Germany’s top competition. It was no surprise when the club announced in February that it wanted to go into next season with a new coach.

Sporting director Max Eberl recently admitted that the original plan was to announce the name of the new coach in April, at the latest in early May. But half of May is already over and still nothing. “It annoys us that it’s not done yet and things are not going our way,” Goal quotes him as saying.

Bayern are desperate. Will Tuchel stay?

Bayern Munich is a huge concept in the football world. One that is not to be dismissed. At least, rejection is not completely expected. When the club announced that Thomas Tuchel would leave, Julian Nagelsmann was expected to return. In the German media it was treated almost as a done deal. But it didn’t happen.

The promising German strategist continues with the German national team, with whom he has extended his contract. However, the Bavarian giant has also received rejections from Xabi Alonso, Ralf Rangnick and recently Oliver Glasner. A comeback for Hans Flick could have been in the cards, but the club failed to reach an agreement with him.

So what’s next? Max Eberl came to Munich at a time when Tuchel’s fate was already decided. He himself has made several positive comments about him. In addition, legends like Manuel Neuer and Thomas Müller reportedly want him to stay, at least according to the German sports media.

The two stars were to initiate a meeting with the club’s management to convey the opinion of the cabinet. However, the name of Robert De Zerbi, currently the manager of English side Brighton, remains on the list.
