Will Pep Guardiola return to Bayern? That’s the question that went around the football world on Tuesday. The Manchester City bench boss is currently under contract at the English club until the end of next season. However, the Bavarian giant’s management dreams of his return.

Pep Guardiola led the Bayern team as head coach from the 2013/14 season until the end of the 2015/16 season. During that time, he spent a total of 161 matches on the bench of the Bavarian giant, won three championship titles and two DFB Pokal championships.

After that, the Spanish strategist left the Allianz Arena and headed to England, where he signed a contract with Manchester City. Guardiola is still his manager to this day, but his greatest success with the Citizens came last season.

It was Pep Guardiola’s charges who won the treble, i.e. the Premier League title, the FA Cup and the coveted Champions League winners’ trophy. The City boss thus, due to his own satisfaction with the club two years ago, signed a new contract that will keep him in the north-west of England until 2025 at the earliest.

But what will the former Barcelona coach do after that? That’s the question, anyway German magazine Kicker came up with a speculation that went around the football world on Tuesday afternoon.

Bayern’s management is luring him back to their side. Moreover, the fans’ optimism about the return of the successful coach was supported by the club’s sporting director Max Eberl.

“Sometimes surprising things happen in life. Doors close, one is disappointed beyond measure. Suddenly a door opens that you thought was impossible three weeks ago,” said Eberl, who was quoted by German magazine Kicker.

Guardiola back at Bayern?

However, the Tacticgrup agency, which represents Guardiola, has reacted to the world media speculation. “Pep has Bayern in his heart, but he does not want to leave Manchester City in the summer. He is very happy and has a contract until 2025. A return to Bayern is out of the question,” the famous coach’s representatives told Sky Germany.

Guardiola’s return to Bayern next season is thus definitely off the table. Considering the next few years, it’s not outright unrealistic, but still complicated. But the Munich giant would understandably welcome his return, especially after his hegemony was disrupted by Bayer Leverkusen.
