UEFA has confirmed the list of nineteen head referees for the upcoming European Championship in Germany. The 2024 championship will not be officiated by Czech representative Pavel Královec, who last appeared at Euro 2016.

With this year’s European Championship in Germany fast approaching, UEFA released the list of nineteen head referees on Tuesday afternoon. Unfortunately for Czech fans, Czech representative Pavel Královec is missing from the list.

However, the selection includes Polish referee Szymon Marciniak, who has experience of Champions League matches. However, another name has aroused some controversy among fans on social media.

Facundo Tello is also on the list of nineteen names. The thirty-one year old Argentine was present as the main referee at the World Cup in Qatar, and faced a lot of criticism from the Portuguese. Before the championship, he became famous for having sent off 11 players in the final of the Argentine Super Cup between Boca Juniors and Racing Avellaneda.

“UEFA EURO 2024 is the pinnacle of European football, with the best teams taking part, and that is why we have selected the best referees to officiate these matches,” an official UEFA statement said.

“All the selected referees have consistently performed at the highest level in UEFA’s top competitions as well as in their home competitions. They have prepared exceptionally well for this position and we have full confidence in them to deliver at the final tournament,” said UEFA Referees Commission chairman Roberto Rosetti.
