In the week, the boxing world was shaken by unpleasant news. Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk were supposed to finally fight on February 17th in a battle to unify all the titles, but the English champion was injured and the duel had to be postponed. Along with it, the whole tournament was cancelled. But now the new date is out, the promoter has revealed some interesting extra information.

As early as February 17, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia was to become the boxing capital of the world again. The whole world was looking forward to the long-delayed and extremely anticipated battle, in which Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk were to fight for the unification of all heavyweight titles.

The fight could not be arranged for a long time. The English champion in particular was causing problems, as he was constantly setting nonsensical terms. The Ukrainian was always more or less nodding off, it was obvious that he was interested in the fight and that he had a lot of confidence in himself. It was Fury who managed to think about ending his career and, in addition, he cut a fight with Francis Ngannou.

Two weeks before the Fury vs Usyk fight, however, the boxing world was hit with unpleasant news. All those who were looking forward to the fight had to bite a big disappointment. The Englishman was injured in training, boasting a nasty cut above his eye. The fight was postponed.

Promoters and fighters immediately assured that a new date would be found. It’s worth noting that the entire gala at which the fight was to take place in Riyadh was cancelled outright. Now the new date is known. Besides, there have been assurances to fans that neither boxer will definitely pull out of the fight.

It is grossly unprofitable to pull out of the Fury vs Usyk fight

Ariel Helwani’s already traditional and established show called The MMA Hour delivered great news on Saturday night. Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk know the date when they will measure their strength. The fans know it too. Put May 18th on your calendars.

In addition, promoter Turki Alalshikh assured that there is absolutely no reason to worry about either champion trying to pull out of the fight. The reason? If anyone pulls out of the match, they will be fined $10 million, or more than 231 million crowns.

There are alternate scenarios. “If they’re afraid of Usyk, I’ll call Anthony Joshua. If he’s afraid of Tyson, I’ll call whoever Usyk chooses. We have a guarantee from both sides, they both know it,” the promoter expressed on the show.

Alalshikh also responded directly to Gypsy King’s injury, who has 11 stitches above his eye. Apparently, he had a special camera in his camp that monitors Tyson’s training and also verifies the champion’s injury.
