The most anticipated fight of the modern boxing era is perhaps cursed

The fight of the century was ruined by a training sparring partner. Boxing fans are sad. Just fifteen days before the most anticipated fight of the modern boxing era, the boxing world was shocked by news of a nasty training injury.

It was supposed to be the biggest fight of the century. A clash of undefeated champions to unify all the world heavyweight boxing titles and determine the undisputed king of modern boxing. Unfortunately, this battle is perhaps cursed.

Fans have been calling for this fight for years. On one side, the legendary Tyson Fury with a spectacular record of 30 wins, one draw and no defeats. An incredible 24 KOs. While he came under fire from critics in his last fight for a miserable performance against former UFC champion Francis Ngannou, he still stands as one of the greatest fighters in history.

On the other side, he is also undefeated with a record of 21 wins with 14 knockouts. Oleksandr Usyk represents the “good side” in this fight. He has long been calling for a showdown with Gypsy King, but unfortunately he won’t get it this time either.

Tyson Fury was badly injured in sparring

This time it looked like nothing was standing in the way of a spectacular fight. The financial requirements were met, the date and venue for the fight on February 17 in Saudi Arabia were booked. Then, in the last few days, one of the greatest promo videos in the history of the sport was released. But all for nothing.

Just 15 days before the fight, Tyson Fury announced that the fight had to be postponed. The injury that the Gypsy King picked up from sparring was to blame. The Brit posted a gruesome cut over his eye on his Instagram, which of course makes it impossible for him to take the fight.

Fury has reportedly asked for several months of recovery. Usyk’s team isn’t slacking off though and is already arranging a replacement. That would be undefeated Croatian Filip Hrgovic (17-0). He is considered a fearsome puncher who has scored 14 KOs from his 17 wins.
