Although the Serbian tennis player is not doing well this season. He set another record on Sunday by becoming the oldest tennis number one in the history of the ATP rankings, smashing another record previously held by the legendary Roger Federer.

Djokovic is having a miserable start to the season so far

The Serbian tennis number one has been at the top of the ATP rankings all this year as well. However, he is experiencing a very unsuccessful season by his standards, as he still does not have a single title to his credit.

Still, he has enough of a lead from last year’s great season so far and the encroaching tennis players with Carlos Alcaraz and the current best tennis player of this season Jannik Sinner have not deprived him of his throne.

However, unless Djokovic improves significantly, it is only a matter of time before he loses his world number one position. Still, he notched another significant record on Sunday. At the age of 36 years, 321 days, he became the oldest world number one in the history of the ATP rankings. He has now beaten Roger Federer of Switzerland by another record.

Although he is not doing very well, he has once again improved his own record for the number of times he has been world number one. He has already started his 420th week. The second best player in history Federer spent 110 weeks less on the throne. Djokovic first took the top spot on July 4 at the age of 24. His rivals Nadal and Federer were on the throne even two years earlier. The historical record is held by Carlos Alvcaraz, who did it even at the age of 19.

Djokovic can make another historic record

At the upcoming Masters tournament in Monte Carlo, if he wins, Djokovic can once again make history as the only tennis player to win at least three times at all Grand Slams, Masters tournaments and the Tournament of Champions. No one in the history of men’s tennis has ever done that.

However, the question is his current form, if he is even capable of winning this tough clay tournament. If Nadal’s successor Alcaraz dethroned Djokovic the year before last. This season, it’s “the wolfman” who’s on his way to the throne Jannik Sinner, who is already beating Djokovic on a regular basis.

So it is easy to anticipate when the position on the top step will change. Since Djokovic has a huge amount of points to defend by the end of the season and if he doesn’t start winning soon he will leave this post. Of course, the Serbian already had one such crisis a few years ago when he even dropped out of the Top 20 for a while and this tennis player never gives up.
