On Wednesday, Real Madrid literally forced their way through Leipzig to the Champions League semi-finals. In the first half, he survived several quick actions of the Germans, in the second he kept an eye on the development thanks to two controversial decisions of the referees.

Although Real Madrid did not dominate the opening game of the away leg, there was little doubt about their progress after a 1-0 win. But Leipzig could have scored three goals in the first half of the rematch, especially Loïs Openda had great chances.

Real should not have finished without a red

A very controversial situation occurred right at the beginning of the second half. Vinícius first fouled Willi Orban, then after the Hungarian stopper got up he threw him back to the ground with his hands in addition. Surprisingly, the referee only drew a yellow card.

Yet the yellow card was only adequate for the Brazilian’s first tackle. The subsequent push through was clearly unsporting behaviour and therefore again at least a yellow card.

“As a PSG fan, I feel sorry for you. Real Madrid have robbed every team in history, as they always have,” wrote Leipzig supporter Benjamin in a liked comment under an Instagram post. The red would have been drawn by the experts in the Nova Sport studio.

There was also a second sending off in the game, which was pointed out by fan Jun. “Vinícius and Kroos had to be sent off. What a joke,” he reacted to Toni Kroos’ hard tackle on Dani Olmo. The German already had a yellow card for a previous tackle.

A foul in both games

“They just f**ked us in both games. Unbelievable what they do to Bundesliga teams in the Champions League,” Marius reacted to the fact that the referee did not help Leipzig in the first game either. He disallowed Benjamin Šešek’s goal because of a close offside.

The pain of Leipzig’s players and fans is all the more unpleasant because their team was not worse in either game. It was the quality in the end that made the difference, with Opendo and Benjamin Šeško failing. On the other hand, Vinícius is now a killer.
