The Champions League quarter-finals offered us a duel between Real Madrid and Manchester City. The visitors were the bigger favourites to qualify, looking to defend their triumph in the millionaire competition. But they could not have faced a tougher opponent than Real.
The game offered us a lot, both teams were going for the attack and we didn’t see any parked bus. In the end, six goals came out of it, three on each side. Camavinga, Rodrygo and Valverde scored for Real, then Bernardo, Foden and Guardiola for City.
The Manchester team’s goals in particular were eye-catching. Both teams can be happy with a point given the way the game went, certainly in the rematch which is being played at the Etihad Stadium.
The match was praised by both coaches. “It was a very good game from both sides. We had more chances at 2-1 and could have made the difference, but on the other hand we have to admit that we could have lost. The draw is fair,” said Carlo Ancelotti at the press conference.
“It was an attractive match between two teams that were always on the attack. We were leading for a while, the opponent was leading for a while. This is football. The Bernabéu is an exceptional stadium. Even if you are leading here, you can never succumb to the impression that you have won,” Guardiola responded.
Their words perfectly explain the fact that the fans were treated to an early final and it is quite possible that we will not see a better game than this one in the Champions League so far.
The favourite for the rematch is City, who will be the ones playing more forward at home. Real will play more from a secure defence and we will therefore see a tactical battle that should not be similar to what we have seen now.
