The Oilers took a big shot in one of their last regular season games of the current NHL season! They blasted San Jose with nine goals and Connor McDavid recorded his 100th assist of the season. The Canadian star thus rewrote NHL history.

A game that San Jose will want to forget very quickly. The Sharks fell 2:9 to Edmonton, capping off an absolutely terrible season. The Californian team is at the bottom of the NHL with 47 points and the most goals scored (326).

The Oilers started their scoring spree less than a minute after the opening buzzer when Connor McDavid scored. Edmonton added three more goals in the first period. Adam Henrique, Warren Foegele and Dylan Holloway scored consecutively.

The middle part of the game was even clearer in terms of play and finishing efficiency. Edmonton scored five times.

Foegele was on the scorers’ list again, while Corey Perry, Cody Ceci, Evan Bouchard and Zach Hyman scored the ninth goal for the Oilers.

Daniil Gushchin scored for the Sharks less than two minutes into the second period and Fabian Zetterlund closed out the third period with a 9:2 final.

However, it was Hyman’s ninth goal that was very special. It was assisted by McDavid, and the star Canadian reached the incredible mark of 100 assists in one season.

McDavid made NHL history!

McDavid has made NHL history, with only three players in the history of the Canadian-American competition before the Edmonton star amassed 100 assists in a single season. The last one was Wayne Gretzky, who accumulated 122 assists in the 1990/91 season.

Mario Lemieux recorded 114 assists in 1988/89, and Bobby Orr surpassed that mythical mark in 1970/71 with 102 successful passes. McDavid thus became only the fourth player in NHL history to break that mark.

The hockey community had to wait over 30 years for such a feat. He is now at 132 points (32+100) and is the third most productive player in the NHL. Nikita Kucherov of Tampa Bay is still within reach of 100 assists in a season and is only one assist away from breaking the mark.
