Carlo Ancelotti wanted Real Madrid to be strengthened by an adequate replacement after Karim Benzema’s departure. His clear transfer target was Harry Kane, who would undoubtedly take the French striker’s place. But things ultimately played out differently and it is already clear for the White Ballet that the path they took was absolutely the right one.

How Real Madrid searched for a striker

Benzema left Madrid last summer after 14 long years. It was immediately clear to everyone that a replacement had to come. We are, after all, talking about a player who scored 354 goals in 648 games and for a long time in the shadow of Cristiano Ronaldo, to whom he had to sacrifice a lot.

Ancelotti, meanwhile, had a clear idea of who should take his place. According to Relevo, it was to be the England international who was so eager to win the big trophy, something he was lacking at Tottenham.

But the man who has the main say at the Santiago Bernabéu certainly didn’t want to go down that route. Rather, he continued to work diligently for the arrival of Kylian Mbappé. Even though it meant waiting one more season for him.

Instead of Kane, however, Jude Bellingham headed to Madrid, for whom Borussia Dortmund received 103 million euros. And that it was a brilliant move is already clear today! The English midfielder managed to score 21 goals in 36 games and assisted 10 more.

He is the best player of the current La Liga season according to many servers. Taking into account the fact that Real Madrid will be reinforced by Kylian Mbappé in the summer, this is truly awe-inspiring. The White Ballet are already great, what about next season?

Kane is still waiting for the big trophy

Now Kane will face a rampant Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals. It must be added that the English striker has certainly had a good season as well. He scored 42 goals in 42 games and added 13 assists. However, even this was not enough to win the coveted title, which Bayern were blown away by the still undefeated Leverkusen.

The Champions League is Kane’s last chance to win a valuable trophy. The 30-year-old has already been to the Champions League final, in the 2018/19 season, when Tottenham lost 2-0 to Liverpool. However, he was unable to make it big at a key moment in his career and so he is still waiting for a big team achievement.

Now the big favourite is of course Real Madrid, who also play the rematch at home. However, there is no shortage of surprises in the Champions League.
