Current Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel will leave the Allianz Arena at the end of the current season. The Bavarian giant has been looking for a replacement for quite some time, and now it looks like the previously sacked coach will be returning. Julian Nagelsmann is reportedly set to return.
It was the second half of March 2023. Bayern Munich made a shocking move that no one expected. And also quite controversial, which provoked a lot of reactions. Julian Nagelsmann was incomprehensibly dismissed as head coach, replaced by Thomas Tuchel.
Hasan Salihamidzic and Oliver Kahn, who made this decision, were themselves fired two months after Tuchel was hired. The chairman of the supervisory board, Herbert Hainer, did not hide his frustration at not being sufficiently informed. Honorary President Uli Hoeness, for his part, publicly described the sacking of the talented coach as an unwise move.
On the other hand, Nagelsmann has often been criticised by the football community for failing to put a sort of ideal game face on Bayern. Only, as it has now turned out, it was ultimately less of a problem than what the Bavarian side is experiencing now.
The era of long dominance is over, the championship title has deservedly gone to Bayer Leverkusen. The Munich giant’s management had already lost responsibility with coach Tuchel some time ago and was looking for an adequate replacement.
Two names in particular were on Bayern’s list – Ruben Amorim from Sporting Lisbon and Xabi Alonso from the now championship-winning Leverkusen. However, the latter confirmed that he would definitely not leave Bayer, with Amorim eventually denying any negotiations with either club.
Nagelsmann back to Bayern?
And so currently the second team of the German top flight is not left with many other alternatives. According to Sky Sports Germany, Bayern are already at an advanced stage of negotiations with Nagelsmann.
Specifically, it currently looks like Nagelsmann is reportedly negotiating a three to four year contract with Bayern management. However, should the Bavarian giant’s management fail, they have two more names on their list – Roberto De Zerbi and Unai Emery.
Needless to say, Nagelsmann took over the German national team after finishing at Bayern. He is also set to be the head coach at this year’s Euro in Germany. Whether that will be the case afterwards is now also unlikely given the negotiations with Bayern.
