Bayer are having one of the best seasons in their history and dominate the Bundesliga. Perhaps it is because of these successes that the biggest rival is interested in two of its key men. Will coach Xabi Alonso and the hugely talented Florian Wirtz leave?

Xabi Alonso and Florian Wirtz the object of interest

Leverkusen is in a great state of mind, but that would be disrupted by its arch rival at the moment. Bayern Munich are mightily coveting the pair of key men behind Bayern’s success right now.

The first is coach Xabi Alonso, whose future link with the Bavarian capital has been talked about for some time. It should be noted, he played three seasons in Munich and won the title in each of them. However, Liverpool would also like to have the 44-year-old coach.

Alongside Alonso, one of the best players of the “pharmacists”, Florian Wirtz, is also in the Munich management’s sights. The only twenty-year-old talent has already managed eight goals and seventeen assists in all competitions this season. He’s asking for a big transfer.

If they win the title, the transfer is on offer

“Florian has a contract at Leverkusen until 2027, and will most likely be here for that period,” the midfielder’s father and manager Hans-Joachim Wirtz told Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger.

It’s true that Wirtz in particular still has time to leave the city on the Rhine. On the other hand, he is already in his fourth year in the Bundesliga and has played 100 games with a record of nineteen goals and thirty-two assists.

If Leverkusen really did bring their run to a victorious end, for both Xabi Alonso, and Florian Wirtz, a departure would be outright suggested. And both are still in the mix with their team in both the national cup and Europa League. There, they will face Karabakh, so the current leader of the German top flight will have a somewhat difficult trip to Azerbaijan.

In the Bundesliga, the team from North Rhine-Westphalia is currently eight points ahead of Bayern Munich and is on course for its first ever title. It would break the eleven-year reign of the Munich giant.
