Atalanta failed in their dress rehearsal for the Europa League quarter-final rematch with Liverpool, losing a two-goal lead at home and only drawing 2-2. Hellas Verona, on the other hand, takes a valuable point in the fight for salvation.

Emil Holm had the first chance of the game in the seventh minute, but only headed into the middle of the Hellas Verona goal. In the 13th minute, the home side celebrated, with Gianluca Scamacca, the hero of Thursday’s game at Anfield, heading just under the crossbar.

And five minutes later, the Italian international made his mark on the stat sheet as an assistant when he found the well-positioned Ederson. The home side’s good moments continued, with Teun Koopmeiners punishingly crossing from a hopeful chance.

And just a minute after the Dutchman, Croatia’s Mario Pasalic similarly spurned his chance when he sent the ball wide. The home side’s midfielder also had a chance in the 31st minute, but his header didn’t create much work for Lorenzo Montipo.

Three minutes later the visiting goalkeeper had to intervene again, this time Belgian talent Charles De Ketelaere was unable to get through. So it was 2:0 to the cabins after a very clear-cut first half.

After the change of sides, it was like a completely different Hellas. In the 56th minute, the visitors scored a contact goal. Tijjani Noslin’s intervention was initially invalid due to an offside, but after a review nothing prevented the goal from standing.

Four minutes later it was even level, with Noslin again celebrating, this time after a centred ball. In the 79th minute, Holm could have turned the score back to the favourite side, but he punishingly overshot in goal.

Atalanta remain sixth after the 2-2 draw, four points behind the Top 5 guaranteeing the Champions League. Hellas Verona are 16th, just a point above the relegation zone.
