Anaheim was able to turn the tide against the San Jose Sharks late in the game. First, Troy Terry tied the game with a minute left and in overtime, the home team’s top scorer, forward Frank Vatrano, scored.

Anaheim struck early in the 1st period

Czech goalie Lukáš Dostál didn’t get a chance in Anaheim’s goal this time. On the other hand, experienced John Gibson got a chance to prove himself. The Sharks had to do without Tomas Hertl again, who is still nursing a lower-body injury.

Ironically, San Jose, even without their most productive player, are having their best season this season. They have won four of their last five games.

In the last game, the Californian team took on the dangerous Seattle, when the game was decided in overtime by experienced defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic.

The home team took the lead in the third minute of the game when forward Isac Lundestrom beat goalie Kahkonen. San Jose took advantage of a power play shortly after, when Anthony Duclair beat Gibson with a shot to tie the game at 1-1.

Nothing major happened until the end of the first period, except for the suspensions on both sides. Gibson had 13 saves in the first period. In the second period, the home team was more active.

However, it was San Jose who scored at the end of the second period when Vlasic, the hero from the previous game, scored. He put the Sharks back in the lead. It was the fifth goal of the season for Vlasic, who scored for the second straight game. The last time he reached that mark was four years ago.

Ducks had an amazing turnaround

In the third period, Anaheim kept the pressure on. He didn’t want to accept the unfavorable situation, which resulted in a great shooting potential. They sent 14 shots at Kahkonen during the final passage.

Out of so many shots, only one found its way behind the back of the otherwise great catching guest goalkeeper Kahkonen. Specifically, it was a shot attempt by Anaheim’s most productive player, Troy Terry, with 61 seconds left in the third period.

The scalded Sharks went to overtime. Just like in their previous game. But Anaheim has a specialist for games against the Sharks – Frank Vatrano. He scored at 64:07 to tie the game for Anaheim.

Vatrano has been very good against San Jose. Anaheim also won the first game of the season 4:1. Vatrano had two goals and one assist. He has collected 15 points in 15 games against this team – 8 goals and 7 assists.
