Men’s tennis number one Novak Djokovic will not be competing at the tournament in Madrid. The defending champion from 2019 will join Roger Federer, who is reporting an absence, as well as the leading man in the ATP rankings.

The Masters 1000 tournament in Madrid will have to do without two big names this year. Both Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer have excused themselves from the traditional Spanish event.

The Serbian is the last winner of this tournament from 2019. Last year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, there was no competition in Madrid.

The current leader of the men’s tennis rankings will therefore lose 500 points, but this is certainly not a concern for him.

He has a comfortable lead at the top. He now has 11,963 points, with Rafael Nadal second on 9,810.

But before Roland Garros, fans should still see him on the tennis courts. After all, he is planning to make an appearance in Rome and maybe even on home soil in Belgrade.
