Is the big transfer of the summer looming? Van Dijk may leave Liverpool, a big Bundesliga club interested in him

Will Virgil van Dijk stay at Liverpool or move elsewhere? That is a question that will be pondered not only by the club’s management towards the end of this season. Will Virgil van Dijk stay at Liverpool or move elsewhere? That is a question that will be pondered not only by the club’s management towards the end of this season. After all, things won’t be the same after Jürgen Klopp’s departure and the Dutch stopper’s departure is not unrealistic. Borussia Dortmund are thought to be one of the serious suitors.

Dutch stopper Virgil van Dijk moved to Anfield Road in January 2018 from Southampton and almost immediately became one of the most important members of Liverpool’s starting line-up. The Reds shelled out more than €84 million for him at the time.

The thirty-two-year-old defensive shield of Liverpool is considered one of the best stoppers not only in the Premier League, but still belongs to the world’s extraterrestrial. But his time at Anfield may well be coming to an end.

The departure of Jürgen Klopp and, of course, the unsuccessful season have had an impact. Liverpool are no longer the favourites to win the title, which by the way is eluding them considerably, a knockout with Atalanta could be considered an explosion and an embarrassment given the quality of the squad.

As a reminder, the native of Breda is currently thirty-two years old and has a contract with the third team in the English top flight table until the end of June this year. And if the club’s management is planning some kind of rebuilding, it will obviously affect Van Dijk as well.

“It’s a big question – I don’t know myself,” the Liverpool stopper said when asked in late January if he would be part of the new era.

“The club has a lot of work to do, a lot of things will change. I am very curious to see what direction it will take,” Van Dijk told The Times. In any case, the fact remains that if Van Dijk were indeed heading away, more than one suitor would be in the running.

Van Dijk to Dortmund?

And Van Dijk would have one such suitor in the Bundesliga. Dortmund have expressed interest in his services. This is because the latter, in addition to the offense, also needs to strengthen in the defense, which this season has not been able to keep a consistently satisfactory performance.

In addition, Mats Hummels is reportedly going to say goodbye to his career. According to the British newspaper The Mirror, the management of the famous German club has understood the current situation and will invest in reinforcements in the summer.

One of them could be Van Dijk, whose contract is expiring at Anfield. However, the whole matter is still speculative. The Liverpool star’s salary is also a significant factor. Borussia would have to at least make up the €13.5 million salary.
