Markéta Vondroušová became the third tennis player from the Czech Republic to win Wimbledon. In addition to moving into the top ten of the world rankings, she will also receive a large financial reward. How much did she earn?

Before the start of Wimbledon, Marketa Vondroušová was ranked 42nd in the WTA rankings. She was therefore not one of the top-seeded players at the most famous tennis tournament in the world.

Even so, the draw in the first round was acceptable to her. She came across the American Stearns, whom she defeated after sets 7:5 and 6:2. In the second round, however, Veronika Kudermetova, the tournament’s No. 12 seed, was waiting for her.

The czech native was a surprise winner and won 6:3 and 6:3. In the third round she found a recipe for Dona Vekic, who probably expected a better result from the top of the grass part of the season.

The 24-year-old lost the first set to her compatriot Maria Bouzkova in the eighth round. However, she managed to turn the match around and enjoyed a well-deserved promotion.

Vondrous complications befell Vondroušová in the quarterfinals, when Pegula had a break point in the third set at 5:1. But she was unable to take advantage of it and did not win a single game in the rest of the match.

In the semifinals she put a stop to Elina Svitolina from Ukraine. She had a great performance at the All England Club, knocking out Azarenka and Swiatek. But against Vondrousova she played only six games.

In the final, she faced Ons Jabeur, who was considered the favourite. But she failed to confirm her role on the court, making 31 unforced errors in two sets, which was not enough for the 2020 Olympic silver medallist.

Markéta Vondroušová was successful on her second attempt. She played her first Grand Slam final in 2019 at the French Open. However, she lost to Ashleigh Barty after sets 1:6 and 3:6.

How much did the left-handed tennis player actually earn at Wimbledon? The winner of the women’s singles, as well as the men’s, will receive £2.35 million, which is more than 65 million in Czech crowns. The amount is before tax.

The winners of the current edition of Wimbledon will receive the same amount as the 2019 Wimbledon winners. A year ago, the reward for the winners was £350,000 less.
