The crowd at Ball Arena was treated to a heart-pounding game in which Pittsburgh captain Sidney Cosby was in charge until the 35th minute and accounted for all of his team’s goals. However, the rest of the game was dominated by Nathan MacKinnon, who started a spectacular turnaround for the home team.

It wasn’t until the 35th minute that Crosby

The Avalanche entered the game as a clear favorite in this duel, almost unbeatable on their ice. Moreover, Nathan MacKinnon has a total of 3 points streak which he was going to extend against a poorly playing Penguins team.

But things were happening in the game! The Penguins won the first period 0:2 and Colorado couldn’t stop wondering. Both goals were scored by Sidney Crosby, who encouraged first Puljujarvi and then Rust to score.

Crosby himself then increased the lead to 3:0 at 33:47 and scored his third point of the game. Just two minutes later, after working with Letang, he called for Joseph to score. The Canadian hockey player had his third four-point game of the season and there was no indication that the home team would respond in any way.

Amazing turnaround by the Avalanche

The home team didn’t give up, however, and by the end of the second period they managed to level the game with two unanswered goals by Walker and Trenin. In the last passage of the game, Colorado even got the equalizer.

In the 4th minute, Drouin, after a pass from MacKinnon, reduced the difference to just one goal. The star Canadian extended his point streak to three!

Firstly, he scored for the 18th game in a row and most importantly, he extended his point streak in home games since the start of the season to 34 games. This makes him the second longest streak in NHL history and he is only 6 games away from equaling Wayne Gretzky’s record from the 1988/89 season when he scored in 40 straight home games for the Los Angeles Kings.

Finally, he recorded an assist in his 21st consecutive home game and is now just one game away from breaking the record of the current scoring leader Kucherov. MacKinnon himself tied the game at 4:4 with less than 5 minutes left and the game went into overtime.

In it, the Colorado team made a sensational turnaround, when Drouin shot through Jarry, who had taken his place in the crease instead of Nedeljkovic, with his second goal of the game.

MacKinnon set an Avalanche club record

MacKinnon is already at 122 points on the season after this game. He is one point behind the scoring leader Kucherov. However, he broke Joe Sakic’s club record of 120 points in a single season in 1995/96. The historical record from the Qubec Nordiques days is still held by Slovakian Peter Stastny, who scored 139 points in the 1981/82 season.

In addition, MacKinnon joined Gretzky in another record. Only he and the famous Wayne could have two point streaks of at least 18 games in a single season.
