Sancho scored for Dortmund, Reus added the insurance

Dortmund won their Champions League rematch, beating PSV Eindhoven 2-0 at home. Jadon Sancho scored the opening goal in the first half, Marco Reus added the insurance goal late on. The Germans now have two teams in the top eight.

Dortmund started actively in a stormy atmosphere, in the first minute Ian Maatsen won a corner kick. Two minutes later, Jadon Sancho scored with a cross to open the scoring.

Borussia were keen to add an insurance goal as soon as possible, but Nicolas Füllkrug’s header missed the Dutch goal by a long way. PSV goalkeeper Walter Benitez came up big in the 16th minute when he successfully pulled back Julian Brandt’s shot.

Donyell Malen also threatened immediately afterwards, but the Argentine goalkeeper kept him out. The match continued to be one goal apiece, with Malen firing again in the 27th minute, this time wide. Home goalkeeper Gregor Kobel made two easy saves after half an hour of play.

Malen’s third shot closed the first half, but the Dutch striker did not hit the net this time either. Eindhoven were happy to go into the box with a one-goal Dortmund lead. The latter was the better side.

After the change of sides, Malen fired again, but Benitez was able to intervene. In the 53rd minute, the Signal Iduna Park almost went silent when Hirving Lozano tapped the ball in. Fortunately for Borussia, he only hit the bar.

The visitors’ good run continued with a shot from Jordan Teze, but it was caught by goalkeeper Kobel. And the German goalkeeper also dealt with Tiemoue Bakayoko’s attempt a few minutes later, which went to the right post.

In the 77th minute, Füllkrug made the decisive save, but after consulting VAR, the head referee disallowed the penalty for offside. In the end, Eindhoven put everything on one card and cashed in from a Reus free-kick in stoppage time. Dortmund are through, PSV are out of the eighth round.
