Wayne Rooney is one of the greatest legends of English football. He made his name mainly in the Manchester United jersey, to which he dedicated most of his career. He is currently trying to succeed in a managerial role, which he has not yet been able to do. However, there is more and more talk that he might try boxing.

When he finished his career, he said goodbye as the top scorer in the history of the English national team, the top goalscorer and the second best passer in Manchester United’s history or the second best goalscorer in the history of the Premier League.

Wayne Rooney collected many trophies, for a long time he was one of the best players on the planet. He was a phenomenal footballer. He may have had more, but he need not be disappointed with himself. His record is unmatched.

Yes, he’s already been surpassed by Harry Kane in an England jersey. He has also propelled him to third place in the Premier League’s historic goalscorers table, but otherwise the English football legend can breathe a sigh of relief for a few years when it comes to worrying about his milestones.

Instead, Wayne Rooney can now concentrate on a coaching career that is going all sorts of ways. He may have garnered praise for the way he performed in difficult conditions at Derby County, it just hasn’t been good since. He hasn’t done well in D.C. United, then burnt out at Birmingham City.

He’s been without an engagement since the start of the year and it’s not known what’s next. World media speculated about his move to Saudi Arabia, but that hasn’t happened yet. Besides, another interesting sporting offer could be in play.

Will Wayne Rooney box?

Wayne Rooney has always been a bit of an elemental. He was and is fond of harder music, and has made no secret of his fondness for combat sports. That has remained with him to this day. So there has been more and more talk in recent months that he might try his hand at boxing.

There is a very popular organisation in the UK called Misfits Boxing, which features all sorts of stars and celebrities. However, if a legendary footballer were to appear on one of the fight cards, it would be the biggest haul yet under the organisation’s banner.

The Red Devils legend recently confirmed that there has been contact and negotiations. “Never say never. We’ve been in contact, they asked me if I would be interested. But at the moment I want to concentrate on training, not boxing,” Wayne Rooney admitted of the contact on the We Are The Overlap podcast.

“There were several opponents in the game. Obviously, the organization tried. There was a lot of writing, a lot of talking. But now I want to get back to coaching. That’s my focus,” he said.

The former England footballer has been boxing training for several years. But he hasn’t scored a fight yet. Meanwhile, not so long ago, there was speculation about the possibility of Wayne Rooney taking on Jake Paul.

Moreover, famous promoter Eddie Hearn mentioned back in 2019 that Wayne had already had several amateur fights and that he had actually spoken to him several times about a duel with Paul. He can even imagine the fight happening at Old Trafford.
