Real Madrid wanted to make up for their loss in the Spanish Cup with a home game against last-place Almeria. However, the visitors surprised the Madrid giant in the first half and went into the box with a two-goal lead. Edgar Gonzalez scored beautifully just before the end of the half.

Ancelotti did not take advantage of the rotation in the match against Almeria

Last week, they stopped the parade of La Liga leaders Girona and now they are reaching for an even bigger surprise. They are already two goals up on home side Real at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium. The second goal in particular has been the one that has stood up to the highest standards.

Already in the week, Real Madrid fans on social media criticised Italian strategist Carlo Ancelotti for the lack of rotation of key players in the team. The truth is that the Los Blancos players did not look fresh in the Copa del Rey semi-final match at Atlético.

So it was no surprise that Diego Simeone’s well-prepared team eliminated their more famous opponent after a four-goal drubbing. It was widely expected that Real Madrid’s line-up would be considerably changed in Sunday’s game against the last La Liga side Almería.

However, the exact same line-up entered the match, except for Camavinga, who was replaced by Tchouameni, and Luka Modric, who was replaced by Toni Kroos. That is, except that the returning Kepa got a chance in goal.

But Almería caught the favourite by surprise and Edgar Gonzalez shocked the Bernabéu with the goal of his life

And the home side’s starting eleven certainly didn’t fulfil the role of favourites in the first act of the match. Already in the first minute of the match, 22-year-old Belgian talent Largie Ramazani fried the home stadium. He ran onto a precise pass from Argentine Robertone and opened the scoring with a shot to the bar.

Although Real had the optical superiority during the first half, it always ended in the attentive defence of the visiting team. In the whole first half, Carlo Ancelotti’s charges did not fire a single shot at the visiting goalkeeper.

The shock then came just before they went into the cabins. Nacho’s misplaced pass was just outside the box to Spanish midfielder Edgar Gonzalez, who scored a goal of a lifetime.

His shot from a free-kick found the corner of the home net and Kepa stretched in vain. Ancelotti sent on three new players for the second half, leaving Santiago Bernabéu waiting for another overhaul. It finally came and Real secured a 3-2 victory at the very end after goals from Bellingham, Vinícius and Carvajal.
