The Pittsburgh Penguins bravely defied a strong Florida team on their ice. In the end, they fell after a shootout (2:3), which was decided by Sam Reinhart, who tied Florida’s club record for most power play goals in a season.

Power play goals in the 1st period

Pittsburgh took the lead in the second minute of the game after Carter Verhaeghe was sent to the penalty box. Jake Guentzel scored just before the end of the power play. He scored his 21st goal of the season. He surpassed the 20-goal mark for the seventh time in his career.

Bryan Rust and Erik Karlsson scored the assists. Karlsson hasn’t had as amazing a season as he did last season. This is his 34th point of the current season in 45 games played. However, his current streak of 10 straight games with points is on the line.

In them he recorded 1 goal and 10 assists. This is the second longest streak of his career. However, last season he broke the 100-point mark and managed to score in 14 consecutive games. Florida, however, tied the game 3 minutes later.

After Marcus Petterson was sent off, Florida’s Evan Rodrigues shot past Alex Nedeljkovic. Oliver-Ekman Larsson and Sam Bennnet had assists. The game remained unchanged until the end of the period. The teams went into the locker room tied at 1-1.

Reinhart scored again

At 31:49, after a couple of exclusions on the Penguins’ side, the second-leading scorer of this season, Sam Reinhart, struck. He scored his 36th goal of the season and extended his point streak to 12 games in a row. In addition, he scored his 19th power-play goal this season.

He tied the Florida club record held by Scott Mellanby (1995/96) and Pavel Bure from the 2000/01 season. In addition, he is closing in on another club record held by Mike Hoffman. The latter managed to score in 17 straight games in the 2018/19 season.

At 59:18 after assists from Sidney Crosby and Bryan Rust. Sergei Bobrovsky’s shot was blocked by Evgeni Malkin. He scored his 16th goal of the season and made the game even more dramatic. With no winner in overtime, the Panthers were the more successful team in the shootout. Sam Reinhart decided the game and Florida was the paper favorite.
