After being traded from Pittsburgh, forward Jake Guentzel was one of the pillars of Carolina’s offense and directed his team to another three-point victory. This time it was Washington, with one goal from Czech forward Martin Nečas.

Carolina confirmed its role as the favorite

In the game Carolina Hurricanes vs. Washington Capitals (4:2) the home team confirmed the role of the favourite and after a botched first period they managed to turn the game around. Jake Guentzel was a big part of the win, he looks like he’s been thrown into the water after being traded from the Penguins. He contributed two goals and one assist to the turnaround.

Since his trade on March 7, Guentzel has played 13 games for the Hurricanes, scoring 20 points on five goals and 15 assists, and is now a mainstay of Carolina’s offensive line along with Sebastian Ahem and Martin Necas.

Alexander Ovechkin has surpassed 850 goals in the regular season!

Both of Washington’s two goals were scored by captain Alexander Ovechkin, who continues to chase Wayne Gretzky’s scoring record of 894 goals. He scored his 850th and 851st goals in the regular season and is now only 43 goals away from the scoring record.

The seasoned cannon just confirmed that he has been very successful against Carolina. Today he played his 90th game against this team. He scored 104 points on 50 goals and 54 assists. The miserable first half of the season has long been forgotten and the scorer has returned to his traditional way of scoring.

Connor McDavid as a scorer this time

In the Edmonton Oilers vs. Colorado Avalanche (6:2), the game was tied only in the first period. After that, the home team took over. Evander Kane and Connor McDavid scored two goals each for Edmonton.

Oilers’ captain McDavid turned into a scorer this time in this duel, when the second and third man in Canadian scoring McDavid – MacKinnon clashed. Both players scored. And the lead in points was tied again.

Still leading the way with 133 points is Nikita Kucherov of Tampa Bay, followed by MacKinnon with 131 points, and it is McDavid who is now at 128 points and still alive with hopes of scoring 6. Art Ross Trophy intended for the Canadian scoring winner, which would put him on par with Gordie Howe.

McDavid rises in the club annals

For the 8th time in his career, McDavid broke the 30-goal mark in a season. He is currently at 31 goals. And in the club annals, he is only the fourth player to accomplish such a feat. Only the legendary Jari Kurri has done it in 10 seasons. Followed by Wayne Gretzky, who did it in 9 seasons. And Glenn Anderson has done it eight times as well.
