The World Championships in Prague and Ostrava are fast approaching, the last preparatory tournament before the World Championships was the Czech Games. It was won by Finland, who defeated the Swedish national team in the last game after a shootout. The Finns’ victory was decided by the talent of only 17 years old.

The first game against the Czech Republic was 4:1, the second against Switzerland was won by the Finns 3:1. The Finnish team is in great shape ahead of the World Championship and on Sunday they will face a decisive match against Sweden.

Eemeli Suomi opened the scoring at 17:19 and sent his team into a one-goal lead. The Swedes, however, tied the score at 1:1 at the beginning of the second period, but the joy of the equalizer did not last long.

About two minutes later, Oliver Kaski scored for the Finnish national team. However, the Finnish lead was denied by Leksand’s 18-year-old forward Felix Unger Sorum, who two and a half minutes later tied the score at 2:2.

Less than two minutes later, it was the Finns who took the lead again. This time it was Patrik Puistola who took the Finnish lead. But this time they couldn’t keep it either, as they scored from Jesper Froden’s stick with nine minutes left in the third period.

The overtime didn’t decide the fate of the Czech Games and the shootout had to be called. It was in the latter that the Finns’ seventeen-year-old talent Konsta Helenius decided the overall victory.

The duel between the Scandinavian teams was thus better for the Finns, who have enjoyed their sixth consecutive World Championship. In all 13 matches played this calendar year, Finland has won 12 times.

In both matches, they also beat the Czech team. At the Beijer Hockey Games the Finns won 4:2, at the Czech Hockey Games they beat Radim Rulík’s team 4:1. They are undoubtedly another dangerous opponent at the World Championship.
