What has been widely and very seriously speculated in recent weeks is now officially confirmed! Adrian Newey will leave Red Bull Racing at the beginning of 2025 after 19 years. He will leave the Austrian stable as Technical Director and Chief Designer respectively. He won a total of 13 championships with the team.

If this year’s Formula One season hasn’t been as much fun on the track, behind the scenes it has been one of the most dramatic in years. Lewis Hamilton played a brutal game behind the curtain earlier this year with his move to Ferrari.

And since then, there have been all sorts of rumours behind the scenes. Fernando Alonso, despite all the speculation, has signed for Aston Martin, Ferrari has secured Charles Leclerc, but has bid farewell to Carlos Sainz.

There have also been reports of a possible new points system in recent days, but the biggest confirmed bombshell so far has been the transfer of Nico Hülkenberg from Haas to Sauber and Audi respectively. But now the Red Bull Racing team has topped all that.

What has been speculated in the formula community practically since Hamilton’s move to Ferrari has now been officially confirmed by Red Bull.

Its chief designer, technical director and one of its most important men, Adrian Newey, will leave Red Bull at the start of 2025. This will be after nineteen years and thirteen championship titles.

One of the main architects of all the successes in the world is leaving Red Bull

If Newey can be described as one of the main architects of Red Bull’s brutal success? Well, of course we can! The legendary engineer has been with Red Bull since 2006 and in that time has helped the team win seven drivers’ world titles and six constructors’ titles, including a share of its current dominance.

However, his relationship with the team has deteriorated over the past year, specifically with boss Christian Horner. Newey doesn’t like where the reigning champions are headed, and according to behind-the-scenes reports, even the infighting at Red Bull is reaching unbearable levels.

Newey was contracted to the Austrian stable until the end of the 2025 season, but he has been working with his lawyers in recent days to free himself earlier. Specifically at the start of the 2025 season.

It should be added, as journalist Chris Medland reports on Racer, Newey has reportedly been fully committed to Formula 1 for the past two years. According to Horner, he has spent 50 percent of his time on the F1 monocoque.

For Newey, however, the deal is crucial, as he could almost immediately jump into developing a new car for another team after leaving Red Bull. It is very likely that he will have a say in the development for the 2026 season.

It is not yet clear where his next steps will lead. However, according to the latest reports, he has turned down a lucrative offer from Aston Martin, and is most closely linked with a move to Ferrari. It’s no secret that Newey’s dream is to one day work with Hamilton.
