Chelsea failed to win the 13th round of the Premier League, falling 1:4 to Brighton. The home side had the upper hand from the first minute and deservedly beat Chelsea for the first time in the league. The Londoners scored two more goals themselves.

Brighton had a great chance in the third minute when Thiago Silva headed home a Leandro Trossard shot after a mistake by the visitors. Two minutes later, however, the home side were celebrating. Again, after a great cross, Trossard rounded the goalkeeper and scored with ease.

Brighton were playing for their lives and scored for the second time in the 14th minute. After a corner kick, Ruben Lotus Cheek knocked the ball into his own net.

At the other end, Conor Gallagher and Christian Pulisic had double chances. Gallagher’s shot was saved by Robert Sanchez, just as he did in the 19th minute. Both of the young midfielder’s shots were well placed and on target.

After that, the game settled down until home midfielder Moises Caicedo hit the side netting in the 30th minute. In the 43rd minute, the home crowd was celebrating again. A fast break ended in an own goal again, this time by Trevoh Chalobah.

After the change of sides, Chelsea quickly got back into the game. Kai Havertz pounced on the centre and reduced the score to 1:3.

Chelsea pressed, or rather dominated the ball, but did not get another chance until the 69th minute when substitute Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang headed just inside Sanchez’s gloves. And that was it for a long time.

Then, ironically, the home side started to threaten again and Chelsea couldn’t get the pressure they needed. In the setup, they scored from Pascal Grosse’s kick to make it 1: 4, denying them the chance to reach the elite four.

ESPN editor James Olley then posted on his twitter account taunts from Brighton fans addressed to their former coach – Graham Potter. “You’ll be sacked in the morning.”

But the current Chelsea London coach defends himself by saying he has no regrets and nothing to apologise for. He says he has done a good job. You can see both statements for yourself in the attached posts below.
