However, he is not leaving French football altogether, even though it may seem like it. The local newspaper L’Équipe has come up with some interesting information. The new star of Los Blancos has made an unexpected move. She’s taken on a traditional French team.
Specifically, the new owner of Stade Malherbe Caen. Everything is more or less official. Mbappé has now acquired the second-tier club through his investment fund Coalition Capital, buying an 80% stake from American company Oaktree.
The deal was expected to happen on Tuesday evening. The only condition for its completion is the submission of the project to the club’s Social and Economic Council and the National Directorate of Control and Management of the Professional Football League, which is expected to take place in mid-August.
According to the French media, this is a mere formality as the Norman club’s accounts have already been verified.
Mbappé was due to pay around €15 million for his stake, or almost €381.5 million.

The remaining 20% of the club remains in the hands of Pierre-Antoine Capton, who is the current chairman of the supervisory board. American group Oaktree has been at the club since 2020.

For now, we don’t know what his ambitions are for Caen. However, this is a cell more than 100 years old, played well over 10 seasons in the top competition, now playing in the second league, where they were relegated in 2019.
