After a 2:3 defeat to RB Leipzig, Leverkusen faced Hoffenheim away in the 3rd round of the Bundesliga. It was expected to be a much easier task than Leipzig, although Hoffenheim wanted to make it difficult for the German champions. But that was not to be, as in the 17th minute Martin Terrier sent Bayer into the lead after a beautifully executed counter-attack. Bonifiace headed the ball into an empty net. He then made it 2-0. The defending champions went on to win 4-1.
- Last season’s champions won 4: 1
- Victor Boniface scored 2 goals
- The defending champions are currently in 5th place
Last season’s undefeated champions have already notched up one defeat in the current season. They lost 2:3 to Leipzig in the second round of the German Bundesliga. The match against Hoffenheim meant one thing for Leverkusen.
And that was to try and get back on the winning track and not let Bayern pull away by more than 3 points ahead of the upcoming return leg. Bayern will face Leverkusen on September 22 at the Allianz Arena.
The Bundesliga and its 3rd round brought the match between Hoffenheim and Leverkusen. A bit more attractive match for Czech fans because of the Czech players who jumped into this match. Patrik Schick came on in the 86th minute and Pavel Kadeřábek played the whole game.
Right from the edge of the box, Martin Terrier came through on the counter-attack, sending the ball into the net after a pass from Boniface. It was he who received a pass behind the defence from Granit Xhaka 13 minutes later and he dealt with the situation beautifully individually. In the 30th minute it was 2-0.
But Hoffenheim didn’t give up, and 7 minutes after the second goal Berisha scored after a centre from Kramaric. The home side managed to reduce the score to 1: 2 before the end of the first half and went into the cabins with a playable score from their point of view.
Leverkusen added further goals in the second half
The start of the second half did not bring us such a clear view of the game, quite the opposite. It was very even on the pitch.
In the 69th minute, a direct kick was ordered, which was subsequently reviewed by the VAR, who deemed that the tackle happened in the penalty area. Moments later, in the 72nd minute, the referee awarded a penalty to the visitors, which was converted by superstar Florian Wirtz.
Striker Boniface added the cherry with a great individual action and secured a clear victory (4: 1) for his team on the road.
