- The defender Mats Hummels has already found a job
- The experienced stopper will play for AS Roma in Italy
- The Romans have not had a good start to the season so far
The transfer window closed for all Italian clubs at midnight between Friday and Saturday. However, this does not apply to the free agent market, which was exactly the case for Hummels.
AS Roma offered him a one-year contract, which will see him earn €3 million. The contract also includes an option to extend for another year.
However, AS Rome was far from the only bidder. During the transfer period, there was also speculation about Leverkusen, where Czech national team players Schick and Kovar are based, and Real Sociedad in Spain.
Hummels will thus try out an engagement outside Germany for the first time in his long career. The Bayern Munich graduate has only worked for rival Borussia in addition to his parent club.
Hummels’ role in the team will definitely be interesting. AS did not have a good start to the season at all. After three rounds they have only two points, except for Juventus, but they have faced clearly inferior opponents.
Strengthening the defence is therefore crucial, especially with the departure of Chris Smalling. That’s also why Mario Hermoso, the Spaniard who defended the colours of Atletico Madrid last season, is coming along with Hummels.
