- Škriniar would become the fifth Slovakian footballer in history to play in Saudi Arabia’s top competition
Slovakian football defender Milan Škriniar is facing a very significant change in his career. After a year-long engagement at PSG, where he appeared in 32 matches, he is close to a move to Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr.
The transfer speculation has been confirmed by renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, who said that Al Nassr has already sent an official offer to Paris, which has been accepted by PSG.
Škriniar was not a certainty at PSG
Škriniar, who joined PSG last summer as a free agent after terminating his contract with Inter Milan, has had intermittent success in Paris. Although he has started 32 games and contributed one goal, his position in the team under new coach Luis Enrique has begun to wane.
In a recent game against Montpellier, he didn’t even fit on the substitutes’ bench, which only fuelled speculation of his departure.
According to reports, Škriniar is interested in a move to Saudi Arabia. He could meet stars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcelo Brozovic, Aymeric Laporte or Sadio Mané, who are already at Al Nassr.
The Italians were also interested
Interest in Škriniar has also been registered by clubs from the Italian Serie A. There, the player spent several years in the jersey of Sampdoria and later Inter Milan. At Inter, he became one of the key players and helped the team to win the title in the 2020/21 season.
However, the Slovakian player will not return to Italy and will most likely anchor in the Middle East.
His departure from PSG comes at a time when the French big club under Luis Enrique is trying to consolidate its squad. At the same time, it is getting rid of players who do not fit into its long-term plans.
If the transfer goes through, Škriniar will become only the fifth Slovakian footballer in history to play in Saudi Arabia’s top competition.
