Why didn’t Ronaldo go to Manchester City? United acted like a traditional club, sounds from Juventus

Cristiano Ronaldo is officially a Manchester United player, and on Saturday he will probably finally play in the red jersey for the first time since his return to Old Trafford. But everything could have been different. What made the decision, according to Juventus sports coordinator Federico Cherubini?
When Cristiano Ronaldo decided to leave Juventus, the talk was mainly about going to Manchester City. The player himself was said to have agreed everything with the club. But at the last minute, the city rival joined the fray and won the battle in the end.
The Portuguese is thus returning to the club where he became one of the best players on the planet and where he first won the prestigious individual Golden Ball award.
There has been much speculation about why Ronaldo eventually signed for the Red Devils. The legendary Sir Alex Ferguson is thought to have had a big part in it, but other factors also seem to have played a role.
Manchester City refused to pay anything for the Portuguese Juventus star. He met virtually no conditions. “Manchester United has behaved differently, as a club with tradition,” Federuco Cherubini was quoted as saying in an interview with Tuttosport.
However, Juventus’ sports coordinator also complained about the way Ronaldo communicated with the Turin outfit. A break-up was reportedly the only option that came into consideration because of this.
“We respect Ronaldo, but I share the same opinion as the president. The history of Juventus is made up of great champions, coaches, directors. But the club must come first,” Cherubini added.
