Modric, Özil… or Real Madrid players who have recorded 3 assists in one game

A number of excellent footballers have played and still play for Real Madrid, but only a select few have managed to record 3 assists in a single La Liga match. Would you expect Cristiano Ronaldo or David Beckham on the list? Nope, other players with a tremendous feel for the ball can boast this feat.

A number of excellent footballers have played and still play for Real Madrid, but only a select few have managed to record 3 assists in a single La Liga match. Would you expect Cristiano Ronaldo or David Beckham on the list? Nope, other players with a tremendous feel for the ball can boast this feat.

Mesut Özil – Real Madrid vs Sevilla / Granada

The German speedster, who spent 3 years at Real Madrid, was credited with assists mainly thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo, of course the reverse is also true. And during the match against Sevilla in May 2011, he even notched up 3 assists, helping his team to a high-scoring 2:6 win. Özil was a dream teammate for his fellow attackers, almost always preferring an assist to a goal.

However, Özil managed to create 3 assists once more. Specifically in January 2012 in a home game against Granada, when he directed a 5-1 win. Thanks to accurate passes, Karim Benzema scored twice and Sergio Ramos once. The German midfielder stands out for one more thing, he is the only player in history to score 3 assists in one game in the Bundelaise, La Liga and Premier League.

Ángel di María – Real Madrid vs Osasuna

The Argentine winger had the season of his life at Real Madrid during Carlo Ancelotti’s first season in charge, the 2013/14 season. However, the famous game we are about to mention occurred a few seasons earlier. In June 2011, di María’s 3 assists helped them beat Osasuna 7-1. Thanks to his passes, Ronaldo, Pepe and Higuain have successively made their mark.

James – Real Madrid vs Rayo Vallecano

The Colombian offensive midfielder was the reason for the departure of the aforementioned di María, for whom there was no room in the packed squad. Like the Argentine, James also had his best season under Ancelotti, but it wasn’t until the following season that he notched up 3 assists in one game, specifically in the 10-2 win over Rayo Vallecano. In the 2015/16 season, he had just 8 assists in La Liga and 3 of them came in one game.

Luka Modric – Real Madrid vs Levante

In May 2022, Real Madrid were almost certain of the championship title and the Croatian midfielder was in a great frame of mind. In the match against Levante, he proved it in a 6: 0 win, in which he contributed 3 assists. Among others, Brazilian winger Vinícius Junior scored his first hat-trick in the white jersey.

Federico Valverde – Real Madrid vs Osasuna

In previous seasons, Valverde was often used in alternative positions. However, Real fans will recall more than one game when he played on the wing. Fortunately for the player himself, he started to play more in his usual position, that of a central midfielder.

Last season was already a great one for the Uruguayan, scoring goal after goal and being the driving force for his club. This season he hasn’t been as productive, but he has been one of the few to start every game. In the last game before the national break, he made history when he provided 3 assists to help his team win 2-4 at Osasuna.
