Jürgen Klopp as a guarantee of success, that’s how the German coach may strike many fans. Under his guidance, Mainz were promoted to the top flight at the end of the 2004/05 season, but were relegated again to the second tier a few years later.
It was there, however, that the Stuttgart native showed his talents and earned himself an engagement at Dortmund, where he became a legend. Klopp won two championships with Borussia and once won the national cup. In the years of Bayern’s dominance, the club recorded two more league runners-up.
Perhaps needless to say, under his leadership Dortmund reached the Champions League final in 2013. The 70-year-old coach has not only made his mark in the hearts of the fans, but has left an indelible mark on the club overall.
After leaving Dortmund, he spent nine years at Liverpool, where he also made a very good name for himself. He became Premier League champion, celebrated an FA Cup triumph, won the English League Cup twice and last but not least the coveted Champions League.
But at the end of last season, he left the Anfield Road club after nine years and there is now speculation about where his next steps will lead. Meanwhile, he recently returned to Dortmund, or rather visited his former club and greeted the fans at Signal Iduna Park.
Will Klopp return to Dortmund?
At least the fans would certainly like to see the former Borussia coach return. The club’s sporting director Sebastian Kehl believes that Klopp will one day return.
“I think he will come back. I don’t know in what role, but I think he will be here again at some point,” Kehl told Sky Sports.
