- Arsenal will miss several key players ahead of important North London derby with Tottenham
- Options to replace the injured Ødegaard are limited due to summer departures
Arsenal face further health complications: Ødegaard injured
Arsenal are facing new problems in the squad ahead of a series of crucial games. Captain Ødegaard injured his ankle during Norway’s national team match against Austria, forcing him to leave the field in the 67th minute. Doctors will now examine Ødegaard with an MRI scan to determine the extent of the injury.
Norwegian national team coach Ståle Solbakken told TV2 television that “it looked like it in the dressing room“. Arsenal are therefore eagerly awaiting further details on the health of their key player, on whom Mikel Arteta’s team often build their game.
North London derby: Arsenal without Ødegaard and Rice
Ødegaard’s injury comes as Arsenal face an important North London derby against Tottenham. In addition to Ødegaard, Declan Rice will also be missing due to a red card from the previous game against Brighton. In addition, Mikel Merino, Arsenal’s summer signing, is struggling with shoulder problems and will also be out of action.
Arsenal are looking for a replacement for Ødegaard: Trossard or young talent Nwaneri?
Given these circumstances, Arsenal now have very limited options to replace Ødegaard. Fabio Vieira went on loan to FC Porto and Emile Smith Rowe moved to Fulham in the summer.
Although Leandro Trossard could come in for Ødegaard’s position, his performances in that position so far have not convinced. Another option is the young talent Ethan Nwaneri, but he doesn’t have enough experience in the Premier League for such demanding matches yet.
A challenging schedule for Arsenal: Champions League and Premier League without Ødegaard
After the derby with Tottenham, Arsenal have more crucial games ahead of them. They face Europa League winner Atalanta in the Champions League and then a tough Premier League match at the Etihad Stadium against Manchester City. It is these matches that will be a big challenge for Arteta and his team, especially with the absence of several key players.
Arsenal therefore need to improvise quickly and find a solution if they want to stay in contention for the top spot in the Premier League and European competitions.
