The visitors were unlucky to concede an own goal in the 2nd minute. Barcola crossed to Asensio near the goal line and the Spaniard passed the ball underneath him. Unfortunately for Lyon, Matic crossed the ball into his own net before goalkeeper Lopes could get a chance.
A few minutes later, the stadium was even more cheerful. After a corner kick by Asensio, Barcola extended the ball with his head and Beraldo, standing on the small whitewash, beat the visiting goalkeeper for the second time from very close range.
Barcola could have ended the home side’s dream 15 minutes with a goal of his own. However, he didn’t finish well in a huge opportunity and Lopes notched a great save. So far, everything has been going well for the home side.
In the 32nd minute, the score changed again. Hakimi made a beautiful solo save on the right side of the pitch, sent a fantastic centre into the box where the ball was cleared into the net by the unguarded Ramos. It was the 9th goal for the Portuguese striker this season in Ligue 1.
The reduction came like a bolt from the blue in the 37th minute. Nuamah and Maitland-Niles exchanged the ball several times on the right wing. The former headed the ball into the middle and cut the lead with a shot from outside the box to the left post of Donnarum’s goal.
Nuamah could have added another goal before half-time but his shot was just wide. On the other hand, the home side increased the gap to 3 goals from the ensuing counter-attack. Vitinha made a great run, passed to Asensio and the Spanish midfielder served Ramos a great pass in front of the open goal. 4: 1.
There were few chances in the second half. Donnaruma made the biggest saves. The Italian goalkeeper first tackled Cherki face to face and then made a save against Caquereta in the same situation. Enrique thus saved Mbappé for the tough games in the rest of the season and his team still won comfortably 4-1.
