The Oktagon champion refused to fight, so the punishment came! The organization took away his belt and will give others a chance
The Octagon decided to open up the men’s weight class last year and Elias Garcia became the champion. He was warned by the organization’s management that he could lose his belt if he didn’t fight. And now that’s becoming a reality, others will get the chance.
The Oktagon decided to open up the men’s weight class last year and Elias Garcia became the champion. He was warned by the organization’s management that he could lose his belt if he didn’t fight. And now that’s becoming a reality, others will get the chance.
The Oktagon went to England last year and made its first appearance in Manchester. At Oktagon 48, he opened the flyweight tournament and had Elias Garcia take on Aaron Abe for the title.
The former celebrated the victory, the reason being a doctor’s decision. Garcia was no better and as it happens, in such cases a rematch is arranged. But the new Octagon champion refused the first attempt.
So in January Aby had to fight Chris Daniel and asked just for Aby. “I like all our fighters, but with some it’s just more difficult. Garcia had a bad feeling about the last tournament in Manchester. I understand that not everything was perfect.
Garcia unfortunately had problems with traveling to England, which we didn’t even know about. We almost managed to arrange a rematch, but it didn’t work out in the end. Plus, the first fight was recent, so I understand. But he has to be here in April and if he’s not, he’ll lose the title, that’s for sure.
To fight for the title. Ideally with Garcia, but if he can’t or there’s some other problem, he’ll fight someone else for the vacant title,” promoter Ondrej Novotny said at a January press conference.
And the situation hasn’t gotten any better since then. Oktagon has now announced that it has lost patience with Garcia and the thirty-one-year-old American has been stripped of his belt. So the men’s weight class has no champion and others will get their chance.
The first one is clearly Aby, who is not afraid of challenges and his opponent is not yet known. However, we should know his name soon.
