- Liverpool regain the Premier League lead
- The win against Brighton was decided by Mohamed Salah
- Konate’s injury is not serious
Brighton got their first finish at the end of the fourteenth minute and straight away it was a goal. Mitoma’s pass was delicately crossed by Danny Welbeck and the unguarded Ferdi Kadioglu sent an uncatchable shot that bounced off the right post behind the helpless Caoimhia Kelleher. The Turkish footballer opened his goal account in the British Isles.
At the very end of the first act, Ibrahim Konaté picked up an injury after one of the corner kicks and it didn’t look good for him at all. He did not return to the field after the change of sides, replaced by Joe Gomez.
Liverpool’ s activity increased after the change of sides and in the 69th minute came the deserved reward. Cody Gakpo’s centre to the back post was not met by anyone and the ball eventually went straight into the net. Three minutes later, the Seagulls defence capitulated again, this time Mohamed Salah pushed through after a quick counter attack.
The two goals added some much-needed calm to the home side’s kicking game, plus the mood at Anfield Road was also much improved. Not much more happened in the match and Liverpool notched up their eighth league win. In addition, after the tenth round, they will once again be at the top of the table with a two-point lead over the Citizens. So far, Nottingham remains Liverpool’s only opponent.
Konaté will be ready for the next game
But the question remained as to what would happen to the 25-year-old French stopper. He has hit the ground running in every league game so far this season, but has never made more than 22 starts in a single season during his time in the Premier League.
He can now reach that benchmark thanks to the fact that his injury is not of a serious nature. “Thank you for all the messages of support. Fortunately, my injury is not serious. Today’s examination confirmed that it is not a fracture. I will be ready for the next fight,” Konaté said on his Instagram profile.
Liverpool will play Leverkusen in the fourth round of the Champions League on Tuesday, followed by a league match against Aston Villa before the last national break of the year. Both games will be played at Anfield Road.
