West Ham have activated the option to extend Vladimir Coufal contract for another year, according to the Sun. However, the Czech international is said to be unhappy with the fact that the extension has been made on the same terms. Even his possible departure is thought to be in play.
Vladimir Coufal joined West Ham in the summer of 2020, joining Tomas Soucek. The right-back acclimatised to the new conditions almost immediately and settled into coach David Moyes’ starting line-up.
From a personal point of view, his debut season in England was his most successful. He started 34 games in the Premier League, in which he notched up seven goal assists.
In the coming seasons, although his playing minutes decreased, he still made regular appearances. His absences were mainly due to health complications. Understandably, his productivity also decreased.
In the previous season, his performances contributed to the triumph in the European Conference League. In the current season, the Hammers won the Europa League group stage and they are now facing the knockout stage.
However, it might not concern Vladimir Coufal anymore. He has already contributed to five goals in the current Premier League season and is one of the most productive defenders. West Ham have therefore exercised the option to extend his contract, which is valid until the summer of next year.
However, the Czech international does not like the situation. According to The Sun, he is said to be unhappy with the length of his contract and the amount of his salary. The terms of the contract are identical to what he has had so far.
The former Slovan Liberec or Slavia Prague player is even expected to consider a possible change of contract, possibly as early as the winter transfer window. According to Transfermarkt, his price is around nine million euros.
Although he will celebrate his 32nd birthday in August, he should have no shortage of offers.
