Crystal Palace can also celebrate a win against West Ham after their win against Liverpool. They beat the Hammers at their stadium by a difference of three goals, namely 5:2. The biggest role was played by the attacking trio Olise – Eze – Mateta. Tomas Soucek contributed to the debacle with his pass.
Already in the seventh minute of the match between Crystal Palace and West Ham, Michael Olise opened the scoring. Joachim Andersen sent a fantastic centre into the opponents’ penalty area, and despite the superiority of the visiting defence, the French winger got his head through to send his team into the lead.
Two minutes later, it could have been even happier. West Ham weren’t pressing at all and Crystal Palace players were getting one chance after another. Tyrick Mitchell was wide open in the opposition’s sixteen, but his effort was just over.
In the 16th minute, the score changed. Jean-Philippe Mateta made a great turn around a defender in the whitewash, fired, Lukasz Fabianski only parried the shot and Eberechi Eze was quickest to the finish. The English midfielder backed up his team’s great start to the game with a second goal.
Four minutes later, the home fans rejoiced again. Emerson knocked the home team’s centre into his own net and Crystal Palace led 3:0 in the 20th minute! However, the home side didn’t have enough by half-time and in the 31st minute Mateta increased it to 4: 0.
The only positive for West Ham in the first half was the reduction of Antonio five minutes before the break. Tomas Soucek headed the ball into the box and scored an assist. However, even that didn’t help him not to be substituted at half-time.
Soucek notched an assist to ease the West Ham debacle
One would have thought that West Ham would recover at half-time, but that was not the case. The first big chance of the second half was burned in the 50th minute by Eze, who just hit Fabianski.
However, in the 64th minute the visitors did not escape a fifth goal. It was Eze who found Mateta with a pass in the whitewash and he scored his second goal of the game.
The spectators waited until the 89th minute for another exciting moment. The own goal especially thrilled the away fans. Mitchell passed the ball so clumsily to his goalkeeper that Henderson couldn’t handle it and it ended up in the net. And so the away side finally got another reduction.
In any case, with the clear win, the home team is now 11 points clear of eighteenth-placed Luton, and the rescue looks a little better again. On the other hand, West Ham deepened their crisis and failed to win their fourth game in a row.
