Joel Dos Santos. A certain unknown to the home fans, but the last link in the story of Matej Peñaz and Vlast Čepa. Fans have been wanting a fight between the two fighters for two years and in a few months they will finally get it.
Dos Santos, who defeated Čepa, succumbed to Peňáz in Prague’s O2 Arena and there was no question about it. After the first loss of his MMA career, the Brno native made amends and returned to the Octagon victorious after a failed attempt to make it to the UFC.
Peñáz handled the fight with great ease. After all, he went into it with clear tactics. Dos Santos is a skilled wrestler, and he’s got a lot of stamina. Chepo could tell you about it.
Money didn’t want to take any chances. “The tactics worked perfectly. I didn’t want to kick so he wouldn’t throw me to the ground easily. I didn’t kick even once, so I kept the tactic,” he was heard saying immediately after the fight.
After all, Peñaz finished Dos Santos in two minutes and three seconds. He took the match in his stride and won the match deservedly.
Now we can look forward to his fight with Chep, which will take place in Bratislava in April. “It’s like I said. The next fight will be with Vlast. I’m counting on it, I’m ready. What I said is valid,” he added.
Peñaz also commented back on the UFC contract fight, praising the atmosphere at the O2 Arena: “It’s great. I found out that I love the atmosphere. It can get me pumped up. It wasn’t like that in Contender and it made a difference. It’s extremely motivating.”
