Macek considers the end after another hard shot. Will the seasoned Czech veteran end his career?
Filip Macek is an extremely high quality and very experienced fighter. However, what would have raised his reputation to the highest level is not in his wish. He didn’t even win the title in the Octagon for the third time. What’s next for him?
Filip Macek is an extremely high quality and very experienced fighter. However, what would have raised his reputation to the highest level is not in his wish. He didn’t even win the title in the Octagon for the third time. What’s next for him?
Few on our scene can boast such experience. Filip Macek already has 45 competitive fights under his belt. He has fought in many countries with various opponents, not always easy. On the contrary.
But the titles were not for him. He won only one in his career, when he defeated Pavel Svoboda by TKO in the first round in December 2014. Back then, he was still under the GCF banner. Since then, he’s had three title fights, all in the Octagon, and hasn’t won a single one.
What’s more, he’s been mostly unbeaten in all of them. In the first, he was no match for Tomas Deák. It was like he gave up the fight in his head the moment he stepped into the cage. The same thing happened again when he fought Jonas Magarde.
In both fights, the seasoned Czech was even booed. That’s why he decided to change something for the rematch with Magard. He started working with a mental coach. But the Dane got injured and Octagon had to find a replacement in a hurry.
And he did. And a more than adequate one. UFC veteran Gustavo Lopez, who according to some experts was an even tougher opponent than Magard, and it showed in the fight.
Lopez took advantage of every mistake Macek made, and with a few seconds left in the first round, he tightened the guillotine that the Czech veteran tapped out. Even in the cage, you could tell how disappointed, sad and demotivated the Mlada Boleslav native was.
Will Macek end his career?
It was not surprising that there was no question on his desk at the press conference. There was nothing to do but sympathize with the legend of the fight scene. But what’s next? He did talk about that briefly.
He hinted at the possible end of his career. “There’s a lot on my mind right now. I don’t know if it’s time to do something else,” he said at the press conference.
It is worth mentioning that Macek is still only 31 years old. He may still have a few years of his career ahead of him.
He is the Czech number one at his weight, unquestioned. Plus, his fights tend to be attractive. He definitely deserves another title shot. He just has to try to fight for it. If he wants to.
