David Kozma lost his belt on Saturday and the new welterweight king is Kaik Brito, who didn’t give the home fighter even a small chance. Promoter Ondrej Novotny revealed how Kozma’s examination went.
Saturday night offered an incredible spectacle. OKTAGON 37 will forever rank not only among the best tournaments of this year, but probably among the best galas in the history of the whole organization.
The sold out Ostravar Arena offered fantastic matches, many early finishes and some great drama. In addition, a spectacular story came to a close when long-time champion David Kozma fell for the first time ever in the Octagon.
The Pink Panther went into his match with Kaiko Brito as the favorite. He knew exactly what to expect. He had a clear tactic. But the Brazilian destroyed him from the first seconds with hard and fast punches. The home star ended up on the ground several times and was barely on his feet in the third round.
So when the fight was stopped and Brito became the champion, the Ostrava hall was silent. Understandably, Kozma’s health was also discussed, as he hadn’t been looking good practically since the first round.
Novotný revealed how Kozma was doing
“Even defeat is sometimes a victory. David doesn’t feel that way yet and when I told him that the referee is getting a terrible beating, he replied Well, I guess he should have left it when everybody says that,” said the promoter Ondřej Novotný on Instagram.
” David has already seen the match. He was still in it, no matter what it looked like. He’s very disappointed. The CT scan showed that he’s fine and he has only superficial injuries.”
Novotny concluded by saying that Kozma is an even bigger champion after Saturday’s fight and that he is a true champion for all fans. Even more so than ever before.
