David Kozma scored his first defeat in the Octagon. The former champion fell to Brazilian Kaiko Brito, who dominated the fight from the first minute and the referee had to end it. What did he say at the press conference after losing the belt?
David Kozma notched his 12th career loss just before midnight on Saturday. But he fell for the first time ever in the Octagon, where he fell to Brazilian Kaiko Brito.
The bout lasted three rounds, Brito began to pressure his opponent from the start and several times it looked like a quick finish. But Kozma kept trying to keep going and the referee preferred to stop the fight in the third round.
So after four years we have a new champion in Veltero. Kozma was disappointed after the defeat, he was not happy with himself and realized he had made many mistakes.
“I’m definitely not happy with the way it turned out. I didn’t see the Brit’s punches. I always thought I saw his front and back and I was going to dodge it. But Kaik sent it so well every time that I didn’t see it. I have to focus on that next time and improve my defence,” he said at the press conference.
Though the match was stopped before the referee’s time limit, Kozma himself claims he knew about it all along. At the same time, he realizes the move was the right one.
“I feel good now, even though I’m still a bit dizzy. I’mjust bothered by the loss and the fact that I’m no longer the champion. The desire to get the belt back will be extreme.
I’ve gotten used to being champion. Brito hit me a few times, but I knew it the whole time, even when the referee stopped it. But the guys in my corner were telling me that it was really over for the stoppage,” he added.
