Neymar in trouble? He says he’s scared of Brazil’s new president because of taxes

Brazil’s presidential elections are over. Before that, however, Brazilian athletes, including footballer Neymar, publicly shared their preferences. He was not the only one to side with candidate and President Jair Bolsonaro, who lost the election. However, the newly elected head of state sent an interesting message to the PSG star.

Brazilian politics is a very complex and controversial subject. It was no different now that the South American country held presidential elections. Incumbent President Jair Bolsonaro and former President Lula were competing against each other for the post of head of state.

Both men have their big flies. Bolsonaro in particular has been criticised for the way the rainforests have been cut down during his time in office. Lula, on the other hand, has been tried for alleged corruption, which has not been proven.

For many Brazilian athletes, Bolsonaro was the favourite. Legendary fighter Anderson Silva and PSG football star Neymar, for example, have expressed their support. However, Bolsonaro lost and Neymar is said to have reasons to worry.

Although Brazil is now being rocked by mass protests against the election result, the part of the electorate that is rejoicing is equally attacking the star of the Brazilian football team. Especially because he will now have to declare his taxes.

The new Brazilian president, Lula, sent a rather forceful and confident message to Neymar before his victory: “He is afraid that if I win the election, I will find out that Bolsonaro has forgiven him for his taxes.”

Neymar has so far made no comment on the election results. Only his sister, Rafaella Santos, has said that a Bolsonaro victory would be better for Brazil.
