It was October 18, 2023, the last time Neymar took the field in a football match. Since then, he’s been sick and recovering from a nagging injury. Beyond that, he is sorting out his future, which by all accounts will not include Al-Hilal, where he is now based. According to UOL, the decision has been made.

He will probably never touch the Ballon d’Or again, he will probably never fully fulfil his potential, yet Neymar has always given football fans joy with his style of play. It was all the more disappointing when he left Europe for Saudi Arabia.

He was offered big money by Al-Hilal, currently the leaders of the Saudi Pro League and still undefeated this season, who are going for another league title despite Cristiano Ronaldo’s form at rival Al-Nasser.

Neymar, however, has been largely absent from his team’s results. He has only appeared in five games, scoring a single goal and adding three assists. He has been injured since mid-October and it is still uncertain when he will return to the game. It is expected that it could happen in May.

But beyond that, the future of the Brazilian star is being addressed. In February, rumours began to circulate that he could leave Saudi Arabia relatively soon. Now there has been confirmation of the information. At least that’s what the UOL newspaper claims.

Where will Neymar go?

The currently 32-year-old footballer has a contract in Al-Hilal until the summer of 2025. In February, he visited Brazil, specifically a match of his beloved club Santos FC. The team’s president Marcelo Teixeira subsequently revealed that he had a conversation with the player about a possible future together.

Will there be a big comeback? “In order to play for us, first of all, he needs to recover properly. After that, he will continue to gain experience in Saudi Arabia and then he can come,” the Brazilian club boss let it be heard at the time.

Now the information has been confirmed by UOL. In fact, Neymar again attended Santos’ match against Palmeiras and the fans called him on the pitch. He listened to their wishes and made it clear that he was to return home. That is apparently what is going to happen.

In fact, according to UOL, an official confirmed that he will return as soon as he becomes a free agent. So summer 2025 at the latest.

Meanwhile, there was also recent talk that Neymar could still play with friends Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez. He met with David Backhem, the boss of Inter Miami. However, the Brazilian has no plans to play in the US.
