The best league competition in the world is back. The Champions League returns to the screens after a week’s break, with teams battling it out on Tuesday and Wednesday to reach the eighth round of the competition. Who needs what?
The best league competition in the world is back. The Champions League returns to the screens after a week’s break, with teams battling it out on Tuesday and Wednesday to reach the eighth round of the competition. Who needs what?
We take a look at Tuesday’s matches. At 18:45 Salzburg take on Chelsea and Sevilla take on Copenhagen. From 9pm we have the following matches: Benfica – Juventus, Celtic – Shakhtar, Dinamo Zagreb – AC Milan, Dortmund – Manchester City, PSG – Haifa, Leipzig – Real Madrid.
Group E
Chelsea 7
Salzburg 6
AC Milan 4
Dinamo Zagreb 4
And who needs what?
Chelsea will advance to the eighth round if they win, or draw and AC Milan win. Chelsea will surely be first if they win and Dinamo Zagreb don’t win.
Salzburg will qualify for the semi-finals if they win and AC Milan don’t.
AC Milan will not be able to qualify for the semi-finals if they lose by three or more goals. If AC Milan loses and Salzburg wins, AC Milan will not be able to qualify for the Eight Finals.
Dinamo Zagreb will not be able to qualify for the Eight Finals if they lose and Chelsea do not lose.
Group F
Real Madrid 10
Leipzig 6
Shakhtar 5
Celtic 1
Real Madrid are assured of progression to the eighth round. If they don’t lose to Leipzig, they are guaranteed first place.
Leipzig will qualify for the semi-finals if they win and Shakhtar don’t.
Shakhtar must beat Celtic and hope Leipzig lose. After that, it would be decided in the last game.
Celtic can no longer advance to the eighth round but can challenge for the Europa League if they win twice.
Group G
Manchester City 10
Dortmund 7
Sevilla 2
Copenhagen 2
Manchester City have gist progression to the eighth finals. They will secure first place if they don’t lose to Dortmund.
Dortmund only need a win to advance, or a draw between Copenhagen and Sevilla.
Sevilla won’t be able to advance if they don’t win, but even if they win and Dortmund don’t lose. If they win and Dortmund don’t lose, they will be assured of third place.
Copenhagen will not be able to advance if they don’t win, but also if they win and Dortmund don’t lose.
If they win and Dortmund don’t lose, they will be assured of third place.
Group H
PSG 8
Benfica 8
Juventus 3
Maccabi 3
PSG will advance to the eighth round if they win, or if they draw and Juventus don’t win.
Benfica will advance to the semi-finals if they win or if they draw and Maccabi does not win.
Juventus must beat Benfica while hoping for a PSG loss to Maccabi.
Maccabi Haifa must beat PSG while hoping for a Benfica loss to Juventus.
