A duel between the biggest favourite of the group and a complete outsider. The duel between Bayern Munich and Viktoria Plzeň will take place for the second time in a week, but this time the German team will come to Plzeň. How will the match turn out?
Pilsen is considered the biggest loser not only in Group C, but in the Champions League. They are the worst team in the competition, they have not even gained a point and their score is 1::12.
Bayern, on the other hand, are on a roll. With 9 points and a score of 9::0, it is looking to reach the eighth finals without any problems, and it has also broken Real Madrid’s record of not losing 36 matches in a row in the Champions League group stages.
The first match showed the huge difference between the two teams. Bayern crushed Viktoria 5:0, and could have scored more goals, but Pilsen did not threaten Manuel Neuer in goal. It was practically over in the 13th minute, when the German side led 2:0, and eight minutes later it was 3:0.
The positive news for Plzeň is that the scenario could be repeated. In 2013, in the Champions League group stage they also lost to Bayern in the Allianz Arena 0:5, but in the rematch in Plzeň they lost in a much more dignified manner – 0:1.
Another possible encouragement is the fact that Bayern spoiled the weekend’s “Der Klassicker” with Borussia Dortmund, scoring the equalizer in the 96th minute to make it 2:2. Morally, the players could have kept it in their heads.
But the list of positives for Pilsen seems to end here. Bayern’s strength is enormous and, although they are not doing well in the Bundesliga, they are running like clockwork in the Champions League.
Moreover, if Bayern wins and Barcelona does not beat Inter, they will secure promotion to the next stage of the Champions League after just four games. Julian Nagelsmann’s team will come to the Doosan Arena with a great motivation to win.
Considering Bayern’s scoring form, we can expect more goal throws. At least four goals could fall again.
